On rushing things
I've realised that my general rush when talking and being goofy to someone or my power-walking in general when I'm late (or I think I'm late) is because I am being unconfortable and I want it to finished as soon as possible.
Noticing this has helped me a lot and since then try to not rush. At least in these two ocasions.
There are cases I stopped rushing, when on a bike for example, but that's for safety reasons mostly (and stamina). I don't rush when going to works, so that's good, I know it's not in all the parts of my day.
ChatGPT's note
I think there's an interesting distinction here between being in a hurry and wanting to get out of a situation.
The physical behaviour can look the same: talking faster, being goofy, walking quickly, trying to get things over with. But the cause can be completely different. If the real feeling underneath is discomfort, then slowing down becomes a way of staying in that discomfort rather than escaping it.
What I find particularly useful about your observation is that you don't need to fix the discomfort first. You can just remove the behaviour that normally follows it. Talk a little slower. Walk normally. Let the awkward moment exist for a few more seconds.
And the fact that you already notice situations where you don't rush is useful evidence too. It suggests this isn't simply “I'm an impatient person.” It's something that gets triggered in particular situations.
